Appearance: 5ft 11". Short cropped dark hair, blue/green eyes depending on his mood, austere and aloof-looking, usually frowning, deep in thought about some problem rather than in a bad mood. Lean, muscular. No tattoos or scars. Wears glasses to read and do close work.
Personality: Can be a bit of a prick when it comes to his work. Actually quite shy, which comes across as arrogance, but is also just plain arrogant as well. He doesn't laugh or even smile enough, although when he does it is quite endearing. Very serious about his work, but hates to be put in the 'scientist' box. Doesn't have many friends, and spends most of his time when not off-world alone or in the company of scientists as they are very undemanding. He is very self-contained, and not very sociable, enjoying his own company and his books. Has a great, if secret, love of fantasy novels. Can be moody, and doesn't like people very much. Has no patience for them, especially when they mess up. Never questions an order, however much he may disagree with it, having found it surprisingly easy to fit into military life.

History: Only son of a very well-off Jewish-American doctor father and minor celebrity English mother, DJ grew up in the southern counties of England wanting for nothing materialistically, although his mother left him at the age of twelve to run away with a actor she met through her work. He hasn't seen her since, apart from on the big screen. His father moved them back to America, Los Angeles, and tried to make up for it by giving him whatever he wanted, making him spoiled and arrogant, although underneath it all he is still that shy abandoned little boy. His father's only stipulation, on pain of being cut off without a penny, was that DJ studied medicine, which he did, qualifying as a medical doctor at the age of twenty three. His real interest was geology however, and he studied this whenever he got the chance, despite his father's scoffing that it wasn't a 'real' profession.
His grandfather had been a general in the army, and had left his father with a hatred of the military, and so it was to this DJ turned when he finally rebelled against his father's will, joining the Air Force as soon as he was out of medical school to travel and see the world.
He achieved a doctorate in geology, and attained the rank of first lieutenant by age twenty six, going on to achieve an honours degree of the highest standard in geohydrology and geotechnics, and with his skills in medicine to add to this, as well as his family background, he was offered a place at Cheyenne Mountain at the age of thirty.
He has never had a lasting relationship, comparing every girl with his mother and so ending up blaming them for his shortcomings and pushing them away. His one serious girlfriend had turned out to be more interested in his family fortune than him. He had been head over heels in love with her at the tender age of nineteen, and would have done anything for her. The eventual discovery of her true nature left him devastated, and made him distrust the fairer sex more than ever.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Extremely clever, verging on genius, DJ has an in-depth grasp on things most people have never even heard of. He can look at a situation and sum it up in an instant generally, reacting accordingly without appearing to have to think about it. He is also a very good soldier, following orders without question, as well as acting on his own when the need arises.
He comes across as very arrogant most of the time, although this hides a deep-seated insecurity. He hates it when people assume just because he is a scientist he can't handle himself in a fight, because he can. He is useless with people, finding most of them tedious and hard work. Therefore he doesn't often bother talking to anyone, preferring the company of his books. He is very defensive, snapping at people for no reason, and very impatient with people who don't grasp what he is trying to show them instantly.
